James Few was born in 1746 in Hartford (present-day Baltimore) County, Maryland. His parents were William Few, Sr., and Mary Wheeler (James was their second-oldest son). James migrated with his parents and siblings to Orange County, North Carolina circa 1758.
Circa 1770, James married Sarah Wood in Orange County, North Carolina. They had twins, William and Sarah, who were born February 9, 1771.
James may have been a carpenter, but so far no primary source documents have come to light to prove that he was or that mentions his occupation.
James was executed west of Hillsborough, North Carolina on May 17, 1771], after taking part in the Battle of Alamance. He was executed by North Carolina militia troops while they were serving under North Carolina's royal Governor, William Tryon. James was hanged at the militia's camp approximately five miles northeast of the Alamance battlefield (as described by William Tryon in his orders book).
His children moved to Georgia with their grandparents after his death; his wife Sarah later remarried (a Loyalist officer) and moved to Greenwood County, South Carolina. It is unknown what happened to his body after he was executed; either his family members retrieved it (it took about one day to get to the campsite from their home east of Hillsborough at that time; the campsite was directly on the public road from Hillsborough to Salisbury, North Carolina, just after the ford over Great Alamance Creek) or he was unceremoniously buried at the campsite in an unmarked grave nearby by the militia troops that hanged him.
According to historical rumors, James's "fiancée" was seduced by Edmund Fanning, and James was the "sole support of his widowed mother." However, James was already married (to Sarah Wood) and had twins by her (William and Sarah), and his then 60 or 61 year-old mother lived with his father, William (who didn't pass away until 1794) on their farm near Hillsborough.
His brother, William Few, Jr., later became known for his service as an officer during the Revolutionary War and as a politician in Georgia and New York.

In 1681 Richard purchased 500 acres from William Penn's administration, to be laid out in Pennsylvania. As a first purchaser, he received a bonus lot of 10 acres in the Schuykil district of Philadelphia. Richard, son Isaac, wife Julian and servant Margaret Smith arrived in Philadelphia prior to 12 Sep 1682, for Richard served as juror in Upland County court on that date. This precedes the arrival of William Penn by at least one month (29 Oct 1682).
3072 William FEW (1599?- ) [7173]. Born 1599 (app), Market Lavington, Wiltshire. Marr Pez RIVERA 1648, Kennett, Chester County, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. Died Kennett, Chester County, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.
6144 Jeffery FEW (1575?- ) [12751]. Born 1575 (app).
12288 Unknown FEW (1550?- ) [12748]. Born 1550 (est).
It is generally considered that the FEW family originated from Wiltshire, UK, and the father of Jeffery, Thomas, Richard and Eydith Few is likely to be the first in the family since records began. His estimated date of birth is about 1550.
Records show that the 'original' Few's all lived in a group of nearby villages, and currently the connection between William Few 1599 of Market Lavington (who was the start of the American Few ancestry) and the Few's who remained in Wiltshire, is not known. Everything points to William possibly being the son of Jeffery Few c1575, however records show him as being born in the nearby village of Market Lavington and not Bishops Canning where Jeffery was born, but he could have moved - just a few miles away. A second brother, Thomas, married 3 years after William's birth so may not be a contender, and a third brother, Richard, had children born in Bishops Canning either side of William's birth date of 1599, so his family was less likely to have moved to Market Lavington.
For the purposes of creating 'a link' until more information is available, William is shown in this tree as the son of Jeffery c1575.
More research is needed.

1537 Jane (Joan) WHITFIELD (1627-1674) [2231]. Born 1627, Market Lavington, Wiltshire. Died 24 Apr 1674, Market Lavington, Wiltshire.
Records show birth as 1627, 1629 and 1631 at either Market Lavington or Wedhampton, and marraige as 1650. All records show her as being married to Richard Few. Some records show her getting married in Garston, Lancashire but this is unlikely as she was born and died in Wiltshire.
